Nicholas Harrington graduated from Melbourne University and did his articles of clerkship under Maurice Blackburn – whose legacy is now the legal firm Maurice Blackburn. In 1925 he started his own practice in Melbourne. Over the years the firm changed its name as other practices were merged into the principal practice, before returning to the name Nicholas Harrington & Co. in the 1970s. The practice is associated with a number of significant historical legal cases resulting in changes to Victorian society around post war migration, housing, finance and property development.
But the history of a firm is only of value if it informs the present. The enviable legal reputation built by Nicholas Harrington for working tirelessly to protect his clients' interests is proudly retained by the current partners, managers and staff. We take a common-sense commercial view and develop plain English contracts and solutions to help our clients grow and protect the businesses they have worked so hard to build. History has also given us a strong network of barristers, experts and specialists we can draw on to supplement our own skills and experience.
